Ode to Silence

There are times when silence is the more eloquent of expressions.

I view silky silence as I do bold wisdom. When God is silent, His wisdom is likened to the silent flash of lightning, His expressive activity as to the thunder as it detonates it’s power. While we silently wait, knowing God will act, we can rest assured when He acts it will be with an incisive power He alone can deliver. The attributes of His wisdom and strength, displayed in the attribute of His Silence, one for which He is rarely praised, being so often misunderstood. I will sing of God’s attributes. His silences as well as the manifold more praised.

Beautiful silence,

Silence, ma amour.

Silence, I am enraptured

By the tenderness of your touch.

Silence, you sway me

With gentle measures of your caress.

Silence, you so convince me

Of those attributes unknown.

Beautiful silence,

Your eloquence persuasive, expressive,

Articulate, lyrical, soft and sweet.

Billowing with elucidation of

Heartfelt care, silence, my love,

You are the purview that quicken

My senses to become receptive, gracefully aware

To know my Savior is drawing oh, so near.

  • G.W.

My soul, wait in silence for God only,
For my hope is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation,
My stronghold; I shall not be shaken.
 On God my salvation and my glory rest;
The rock of my strength, my refuge is in God.  -Psalm 62:5-7 (NASB)

    1. Now! Yes. Sounds so familiar. That’s one reason I personified Silence within the waiting. Helps me remember. The periods of silence and waiting are really favorable for our sake. Thanks, my friend.
