Beautiful Mystery

Have you ever been stopped dead in your tracks by something of such beauty it seemed mythical? A beauty that was so captivating and yet mysterious enough to defy definition, even identification. And when trying to move on, the mystery and beauty call for you to come closer. When the winsome beckoning wins, and I-just-have-to-investigate results.

While hunting answers to other things, I have found answers to many wonderful secrets in a lifetime of searching and seeking… unraveling beautiful mysteries.

Very many of these I found while looking for answers to God’s secret things…those things He will reveal only in His time according to His Sovereignty of will and wisdom.

I have said Deuteronomy 29:29 is the ultimate answer to any bible question you can’t answer. But seeking further will lead to finding untold riches undiscovered the last time you may have been over the same ground. And these mysteries will link together weaving themselves into a tapestry of profoundly exquisite design. Such is the living word of God in the Bible. A treasure worth far beyond any earthly Kings Ransom.

“You pore over the Scriptures because you presume that by them you possess eternal life. These are the very words that testify about Me,” John 5:39

The Pharisees assumed it was knowledge of the words of life that brought eternal life.

Some assume today believing there is a God is enough to assure eternal life.

Some assume church attendance assures eternal life.

Some assume the correct doctrine brings eternal life.

Some assume the correct denomination will give them eternal life.

Some assume the correct theological box answers have the secrets of eternal life.

Some assume…some assume…assume. To assume. A very sticky wicket to be stuck in, and potentially dangerous.

I believe Christ Jesus did not lie to me when He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the Life. Nobody can come to the Father but by Me.”

When I put my whole being into knowing Him intimately by His Holy Spirit and word — That alone assures eternal life by the shedding of His own blood on the cross in my place.

Only He and the Father and the Spirit can bring me to that place in Him, as I willingly submit to His Sovereign grace and trust Him to lead me all the way, day by day.

Dear Lord: Trusting You is the most sure and safe commission I have committed to in my life on earth. O God of Life, Truth, and the Way ask that You may be pleased to protect us, Your living epistles, from becoming stuck in the Slough of Assumptions rather than continuing to seek Your way in the Holy Scriptures. I praise you for Great is Your Faithfulness.

III. The Call

“Then I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?’

‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,’ the Lord replied.

16 ‘Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen and will see of me.

17 I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them

18 to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’

Acts 26:15-18

CLASSIC HYMN — He Leadeth Me

1. He leadeth me: O blessed thought!
O words with heavenly comfort fraught!
Whate’er I do, where’er I be,
still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me.

He leadeth me, he leadeth me;
by his own hand he leadeth me:
his faithful follower I would be,
for by his hand he leadeth me.

2. Sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom,
sometimes where Eden’s flowers bloom,
by waters calm, o’er troubled sea,
still ’tis God’s hand that leadeth me.

3. Lord, I would clasp thy hand in mine,
nor ever murmur nor repine;
content, whatever lot I see,
since ’tis my God that leadeth me.

4. And when my task on earth is done,
when, by thy grace, the victory’s won,
e’en death’s cold wave I will not flee,
since God through Jordan leadeth me.

  1. So good G.W.
I still have to ponder the depths with new discoveries and dots connecting to the truth that God loves even me, A timeless thread woven into the tapestry of all humanity yet not often in vogue (one small example??)

  2. “And if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding and if you look for it as silver and search for it as for hidden treasure then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.” Proverbs 2. Thank you for the encouragement to keep seeking and digging for treasures. I often fall prey to familiarity when reading the gospels. The stories are so familiar having heard them all my life from Sunday school flannel boards to storybook Bibles to sermons to my own reading of them. Your post echoes the challenge the Lord has been laying on me to reread each gospel and seek new understanding and treasures. Thanks to Bunyan’s Christian, I can picture the “Slough of Assumption” and how it robs me of precious opportunities to move forward in the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Thank you GW for faithfully sharing what the Lord puts on your heart! Your writings are such a blessing to me.

    1. I know what you mean, Beth. I have to concentrate more carefully while reading through the gospels also, because of the familiarity. Then I remember they are the critical link to attest the bible a complete work. A scarlet thread is woven through the bible from Genesis to Revelation. The gospels capture the initial attention by saying, “Something Happened!!” Identifying the Savior-God coming to earth to save sinners from certain damnation.
As always, thank you so much for the great added insight of your comment. God bless you!
