Thought of this Advent Day

“What if we’re not thinking the way we think we’re thinking?”

Hmm…if there is a nugget of truth to that meme, I guess the next reasonable thought should be, “Why aren’t we?”

Which leads me to more fruitful thoughts.

[14The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.

15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments,

16 for,

“Who has known the mind of the Lord

so as to instruct him?” [Isaiah 40:13]

But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Corinthians 2:14-16]

What does it mean for us to “have the mind of Christ?”

In what way are we to exercise the mind of Christ?

Dear Traveler: Fruitful time spent studying the word of God in the Bible is never wasted time. Just the opposite. A waste of time has no room for God. Perhaps a vacuum is a vacuum because God doesn’t enter in a room where He can’t breathe, as it were. Conversely, the smallest thought of God is room enough for Him to expand.

The endless love of Jesus held His arms open wide on the cross inviting whomever will, to come. Time is short but is not yet at an end. For the Lord, Himself says to us:

44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’[Isaiah 54:13] Everyone who has heard the Father, and learned from him, will come to me. 46 No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. 47 Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. [John 6:44-47]

The Merriest Christmas of all began with Jesus. The Host of Heaven attested to it with rejoicing. The wise shepherds received it, went searching to see for themselves.

At the other end of the fullness of time, Peter and John went running to see the empty tomb for themselves. The wise always seek to see for themselves.

We seek and see for ourselves the evidence recorded for us by Him in the Holy scriptures, the Bible.

The wiser still recognize when they have found Truth, to plumb its depths.

The mind of Christ. Too wonderful a gift to waste. A gift that holds the key to eternal Truth.

With this gift we never need ask “What if….”

The Scriptures before our eyes – the mind of Christ.

The Spirit of Jesus indwells with our spirit, testifies – the mind of Christ.

As is:

The whit and whittle of the OT message saying, “Someone is coming.”

The nexus of the NT message justifying, “He has arrived.”

The message in the shadow of the last days,

“He’s coming again

taking final possession

of that was stolen from Him.” – the victory of Christ.

The mind of Christ leaving no room for “What if….,” never lies,

making a mockery of the father of all lies.

The living Christ casts out all fear, for there is no fear in His perfect love.

A Merry Christmas, indeed, to all who have loved the Truth.

        1. Amen, David! He has chosen to share His mind only with those He has chosen by adoption to be His sons and daughters, through their complete trust in Jesus, His Son. “For it is by grace (we) have been saved, through faith, and this not of (ourselves), it is the gift of God. Not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ya’ got me preaching again, David. Ha).

  1. Found myself singing right along with the choir. Great video and powerful hymn. I love your closing words, “just thinking my way through, and loving Him more, this Advent season.” They sum up exactly the fruit that should come from both the advent and Lenten seasons. Merry Christmas GW!
