Avoiding Clique-bait
Over the years, I have learned the value of eschewing cliques of all types. Whether those formed in churches, social media, or workplaces. They often carry an unstated message at best and open hostility at worst. Social interactions have a way of becoming demeaning when cliques form. A specific nefarious infiltration seems to follow when a social group begins to transform. Those within the group who fail to recognize it seem to suffer the more. Some who have experienced it have learned well. Others seek out cliques wanting to be included for a sense of acceptance, elitism.
[G.W.]
[“For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Luke 14:11]

I think you hit the nail on the head with this statement, “Others seek out cliques wanting to be included for a sense of acceptance, elitism.” And I’m with you, G.W. Our family has always tried to avoid cliques. It takes work to do that, because it involves going out of your way to ensure everyone is made to feel welcome and included. But this is the way it should be. Especially in the church or among church people. Very well said!

Thank you, Kendra. So true, “It takes work to do that because it involves going out of your way to ensure everyone is made to feel welcome and included.” But the work is well served as it can avoid possible church splitting down the road. Moreso, hospitality and all it entails very much pleases the Lord. Thank you again for your greatly appreciated added insights!
