Having not borne lasting fruition, Dr. Willard’s foresight and hindsight remains valid. His type for leadership needed in a nurturing culture to bring about a healthy society is still a sound guide. That it hasn’t appeared is not to say, “All is lost.” Just the opposite.
“For God’s good will to thoroughly revolutionize our world, righteously upright and proficient professionals must lead the way. One can see this is an ongoing theme throughout this work. In general, we assert that the health of a society depends primarily on the health and quality of those overseeing its institutions and organizations, and this is mainly where our professional fields are engaged. If our professionals are effective and respected, our societies will not only be sound, but also will roundly flourish. If our professionals are incompetent and disparaged, then there will be confusion, turmoil, and suffering.”

Commentary on Quote:
Upon opening a true and discerning eye each morning, it can be seen no longer are there trustworthy leaders in the age we have entered. We of the Word have only the Word to guide us. Confusion, turmoil, and suffering is widely apparent across the globe.
Christ, and Christ alone can we depend always at all times. He is enough and more. He keeps the air in our living hope and the enemy at bay. He is the air under our wings and the wings to lift us above the melee. He gives us the eye of the hawk to see far ahead the troubles coming, and from which direction, that we ready ourselves with Jesus’ faithfulness. He gives us the helmet of salvation to protect our mind, the most vulnerable to enemy attack. Trust and obey Him, for He alone is whom we serve.
Does this mean this time we’re in is the “Last Stand?” Hardly definitive. It’s not over till Christ says so in Person, face to face, declaring His Kingdom come to Earth.
But the sure Hope of Heaven seems closer with each passing day.

Isaiah 41:10
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Reminder: My Deliverer is Coming — Rich Mullins
I think it has always been true that the Lord is our only hope. I think it is also always been true that our earthly leaders are far less than we need. Good post. Thank you.

It really is an age where so many choose the way of the gopher rather than the Eagle.

I probably should have said Lemmings not gophers.

I think you got it right using either or both. But even those little critters are better off than their representations.

I love your closing line GW- “But the sure Hope of Heaven seems closer with each passing day.” It puts our eyes where they should be on Christ and carrying out Kingdom work knowing each day draws us closer.
