In a Perfect World

I find, even in an otherwise beautiful world, the shadow of evil is a reality and needs to be addressed.

In a perfect world…ah, but we already know there is only one of those.

I have been studying and pondering the question of the time frame in which we live. We are in a time that transcends mere earth-bound politics.

The answers to the question of our epoch can be sought from but one Source. He is the source of all history, and He told the end from the beginning. One need not be a prophet; one need only be an observer of events as discovered and witnessed.

 8And then the Lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

9The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders, after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10and in every sort of evil that deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie: [Emphasis mine]

2 Thessalonians 2:8-11

As we may infer, a “Powerful Delusion” does not mean a slight mistake in discernment. It means a monumental detachment from reality, some of which seems to be increasing today. God “sends it to them” simply means He gives them over to their own hardened hearts, as He did Pharaoh in Exodus.

Those who hate truth do so because truth destroys the lies, they love.

They love lies because they have been deceived by their father, the devil who is the father of all lies. They welcome the delusion rather than the truth.

They disdain the speakers and bringers of truth, as they hate the incarnation of Truth in Jesus Christ.

Darkness hates the Light yet claims to be “enlightened.” It claims many opposites to the truth.

How Then Shall We Respond?

We may consider these few suggestions as a start. Our response should be to speak the truth and contend against lies. To act justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God; to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Love our families more, love our neighbor, and fear no evil. We are not without the resources of our Lord, Christ Jesus.

Lord Jesus, only you can open the eyes of their heart to the delusion by which they have been deceived. Please remember Your mercy for those who turn to you, who call on the name of the Lord in repentance!

Do they not know?

Has nobody told them?

Have they not heard?

There is One greater than they.

He rides forth on the lightning.

He holds the oceans in one hand,

The earth sees and trembles.

The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,

Before the Lord of all the earth.

For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.

And we are complete in Him,

Who is the head of all principalities and power,

On the earth and in the heavenlies.

  1. Lots and lots of deceptions and agendas all like Nebuchadnezzar the human wild beast wandering in the wilderness denying God. Nothing will fix the mess we’re in until we surrender to His personal governance. This wild hairy beast can only create dystopia.

  2. It is a slow drift with major markers, but the current seems to be picking up quite a bit of speed. quite beyond paddling power to get back upriver. Some of us have life jackets hoping the air lift arrives soon.

  3. Isaiah 55:6-7 Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

    In the beginning, the one who is dancing around the edges of the lie scarcely recognizes that he will not be able to find his way back from the miry pit. The Lord does not cease to be near, but the one blinded by evil pursuits my soon not know it.

    I needed to be reminded of this … that while powerful, God is SO much more powerful that He will simply consume him with the spirit of His mouth and destroy him with the brightness of His coming. How awesome is that!!!

  5. “We are in a time that transcends mere earth-bound politics.” Such an apt description! GW, you are a son of Issachar who has kept his eyes on the prize and his mind and heart saturated with the Truth. It is a dangerous time to live apart from the Word.

  6. Blessings to You, GW! At one point I found myself so consumed with the ‘delusion’ of politics, and the decline of the masses, that I lost my focus. But The Holy Spirit reminded me, that the only Truth I was going to find was in the Word- and not in Democrats , nor in Republicans. 🤦🏾‍♀️

    1. Blessings, Tam.  It’s not hard to be distracted by the growing delusions fed by non-stop lies. But you, and I, have the grace and mercy of the Holy Spirit of God re-directing us by His imparted Wisdom! This, I believe, is His meaning of “Special Grace” for the faithful in God through Christ. He will see us all the way. God Bless you! 🌝
