Fearless Uncertainty

What do you think? Is it cringe-worthy to experience periods of doubt in, around, about our faith? I say yes. Is it peccability worthy of our self-loathing, heaping extra helpings of guilt on ourselves? I say no. If I fall let me fall on the grace that first brought me to Him. If I fear let it be of the One Who lavishes His grace on me. And of Him I have the least to fear. As the beloved old hymn asks the question: “Amazing love, how can it be, that thou my Lord shouldst die for me.” But He did. The very definition of love.

Doubt,

Do I do

I do doubt

Of course I do

Am I human

Guilty of that too

<><><><>

Should I hang my head

Must I show my shame

Must that be my aim

That all I am to dread

Is that blighted embed

Of being terribly – human

<><><><>

But what kind I may ask

Am I true to so minor a task

Being the truest combined curator

Of the greatest love for my Creator

Without a whit of being abashed

I say yes.

<><><><>

Do I embrace His loving grace?

I so confess.

Do I breathe His doting mercy?

I do attest.

Do I trust His faithfulness?

In all evidence I so witness.

Yes, yes in all, I say yes.

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”    Matthew 22:37-40 (NKJV)

  •  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—  not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.                                                                                                                                 Ephesians 2:8-10

Adding to the theme of overcoming fear, we need to be honest with ourselves, do we doubt? Doubt’s foundation is in fear and we have been freed from that by our Heavenly Father’s gift of Power, of Love and a sound or disciplined mind! Let’s remember to walk in that!
