Fond Echoes of Highways and Byways

It’s been a rather uncomfortable few weeks. So, going to try and liven it up a little…for all who need a bit of lightness-of-heart, too.

One must understand the free-wheeling love of distant highways motorcycle touring I enjoyed in my youth. Summertime was my freedom-on-the road time. Each year, as the season gets warmer, when winter gives way to spring’s early buds, and summer blossoms begin to sweeten the air, the memories come flooding in.

Motorcycle rhyme

Climb on my hog

Speed through time

Looking for some adventure

Not the focus at this stage.

Live memories uncensured

Only to turn another page.

When this life is finished

And I hear the Masters call,

My kick-start isn’t vanquished

He will never let me fall.

Looking toward heaven what do I see,

Angel whisking come for to get me

On a flaming sportster motor Harley.

Coming with a flourish not to tarry,

An effulgent portal home opens for me.

Truly not going to kick against this reverie.

(God ain’t no spoil-sport!

my felicity is His levity.)

“As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.” 2 Kings 2:11

O Lord if it may be, may it be as You say, let it be so.

~I find that fond memories are a good point of departure for reflecting on all the good Lord has afforded me over a semi-longish life, thus far. And why shouldn’t it be? It is His goodness that guides us back onto the right path when we at times lose our way. So here’s to all the highways and byways traveled. Each one teaching me something new about Him, placing a needed tool in my travelogue for future use along the way.

The only truly risky road is the one the Savior isn’t traveling with you. He lives. And for that reason I can face tomorrow. ~GW
