Oftentimes it happens like this.

We ask for a certain something but receive

another seemingly quite different,

certifiably indecipherable.

Time, then added pieces,

when we grow into it,

we find the gift.

Under a Tapestry Sky

I asked God for bread

He gave me a rock

I asked God for companionship

He gave me solitude

I asked God for wisdom

He gave me pain

I asked God for busyness

He gave me a book.

I asked why He gave me a book when I needed work?

A lifetime knowing Him. The Bible is more than work for one lifetime.

I asked why I received so much pain when I asked for wisdom?

Feeling much pain of so many in so much of the world requires God’s knowledge. With God’s wisdom comes God’s pain.

I asked why when I asked for companionship did He consign me to solitude?

That I should hear God’s thoughts in the deep, and know how deeply He resides with me.

I asked why He gave me a rock when I asked for bread?

It was the Bread of Life. The Rock of Ages. The Cornerstone. The Rock of my Salvation. Christ Jesus. In Him is the cornucopia of all needs met, physical and spiritual.

Everything I asked of Him in a lifetime, He gave to me more. In good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over.

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”_Luke 6:38
