Sparrows on my balcony this morn. Some searching for forage, others looking in the window at me. Never saw this happen before. They are most content to stay across the river in the wooded acres . God’s eye is on the sparrow, and His sparrow’s eyes are on me. A reminder the Lord is with me.
As I follow the news of the persecuted church worldwide, and at this stage of my life, I recognize the spiritual fight isn’t only out there. The main struggles and battles are inside me. But I find peace in the knowledge of Jesus praying for me. I feel His prayers. How can I not respond in thanksgiving and praying for others? I witness His answering of my supplications. Faithful is He. “Greater is He that is in us than he who is in the world.”
Beloved in Christ: You are incredibly and personally loved by the Greatest of all Loves.
“So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.” Matthew 10:31 (NLT)
I love it! God does have a way of sending us reminders!

I love it also. So subtle “that those who are blind won’t see, and those who are deaf won’t hear and understand.”

To paraphrase Lincoln: “God must love the sparrows, because He made so many of them.” Yet He knows when one falls to the ground. It’s wonderful to be loved and known by God like this. Thank you for the reminder, G. W.

Thank you, David, I do agree. He made so many of them. They are common to the eye, and yet He mentions them by name in the scripture. There in I see their true beauty. Plus, of more exquisite species, sparrows are the only ones to pay a personal visit to my home asking to be invited in, as it were.

Only God could encourage us through a sparrow. “really?” we might say , we want something big… worthy of cheering US up.

So true, Gary. We so often want fireworks over God’s whispers.

G.W., how delightful to have such visitors. This week I realized our white throated sparrows have returned for the winter. As I stand outside waiting for the dogs in the morning, I’m grateful for their melodic song that fills the crisp air. They will stay tucked away in the trees until the bird feeder is set up later this month. The church I was born into was formed from the Jesus movement, so the first songs I learned as a child were the scripture songs of that era. They have stayed with me all these years later. “Greater is He” is one I often pull when I feel beat down by the spiritual battle waging around me.

I love how you weave your experiences together, Beth! So interesting always. I came out for and surrendered to the Lord during the era of the Jesus movement. I miss the joy of gathering in homes, fields, barns and other gatherings. All together singing and praising the Lord with those scripture songs with the best song leaders. So many sermons were delivered in song! Evangelizing was simply inviting newly met friends to come along. Such joy-filled times in the Lord. Thank you so much for this reminder!
